Biography

Juan is a neurobiologist (B.Sc. & M.Sc.) and statistician (M.Sc.) currently working at Biostatech S.L. as junior biostatistician. Juan is also enrolled at GRID-BDS (University of Santiago de Compostela’s Biostatistics & Biomedical Data Science Research Unit) developing his Ph.D. thesis in statistical methods and machine learning applied to diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases under the supervision of Prof. Pablo Aguiar, Prof. Carmen Cadarso (RIP), and Prof. Andrew H. Kemp. Juan’s coding interests include R, Matlab, Phyton, and LaTeX.

Juan has previously worked as research assistant at Swansea University, supporting Prof. Andrew H. Kemp in his research on social ties and their implications with health and longevity. This collaboration led to the publication of a book chapter and an extensive review in the field of Affective Neuroscience titled The Neuroscience of Sadness. Juan has also worked as an assistant teacher at Swansea University, as Freelance Writer for the EDUopinionsBlog, and as collaboration grantholder at University of A Coruna’s environmental office, among other jobs.

In addition, Juan has a keen interest for scientific communication, hosting his own science & comedy podcast and collaborating with other science-related projects such as blogs, radio shows, and sci-comm collectives. For further information download my complete CV.
