Doctoral Researcher

University of Santiago de Compostela

Biography

Juan is a neurobiologist (B.Sc. & M.Sc.) and statistician (M.Sc.) who is part of GRID-BDS (University of Santiago de Compostela’s Biostatistics and Data Science Research Unit) developing his Ph.D. thesis in statistical methods and statistical learning applied to the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases under the supervision of Prof. Pablo Aguiar, Prof. Carmen Cadarso (RIP), and Prof. Andrew H. Kemp. Previously, he worked as a Biostatistician at Biostatech S.L., a company specializing in biostatistics and applied statistics. Juan’s programming interests include R, Matlab, Python, and LaTeX.

Juan has previously worked as a research assistant at the University of Swansea, supporting Prof. Andrew H. Kemp in his research on social bonds and their health and longevity implications. This collaboration led to the publication of a book chapter and an extensive review in the field of Affective Neuroscience titled The Neuroscience of Sadness. Juan has also worked as an assistant professor at Swansea University, as a freelance content writer for the EDUopinions Blog, and as an intern at the University of A Coruña’s Environmental Office, among other positions.

Furthermore, Juan has a strong interest in scientific communication, hosting his own humor and science podcast and collaborating with other projects such as radio programs and science communication collectives. For more information download my full CV.
